Sydney Amateur Sailing Club
Sydney, Australia

Welcome to the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club.

The SASC was founded in 1872 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Australia. Located on the shores of Mosman Bay in Sydney Harbour, the club has some 400 members and conducts racing for keel yachts on the harbour and, in association with other clubs, offshore.

Gaffer’s Day Aims for 100-strong Fleet

The SASC, organiser of the popular biennial Gaffer’s Day celebrations, is aiming to assemble a record fleet of 100 classic yachts for this year’s regatta on Sunday 18 October 2015.

More than 90 craft participated in the 2013 event and interest in wooden sailing boats has continued to grow since then with booming fleets on Sydney Harbour, Pittwater and Port Phillip Bay.

The SASC has been staging the regatta from its clubhouse at Mosman Bay since 1972, bringing together an extraordinary range of beautiful and historic wooden boats.

Gaffer’s Day is much more than a sailing regatta. There is as much action and spectacle on land as out on the waters of Sydney Harbour.

The public is welcome to visit the club where the yachts gather. Admission is free. A breakfast BBQ opens at 8:00 am, the rum tent begins dispensing the sailor’s favourite tipple from 10:00 am and live music is provided.

Many of the most beautiful classic yachts in Australia will be alongside at the SASC for the public to admire.

Spectators can secure an exclusive close-up view of the on-water activities by booking a place on the ferry Proclaim, built in 1939, which will follow the racing. Food and refreshments are available on board and there is expert “live” commentary.

It’s a great day and everyone is welcome, so put that date in your diary – Gaffer’s Day, Sunday 18 October 2015.
